And here we are again! Another school year done and dusted and another Christmas holiday on the horizon. What happened to 2019? I have loved getting to know your children and it has been a privilege to monitor their growth and development throughout the year.
GOODBYE AND FAREWELL
Our much- loved Maria, who has been at Fleming even before it was Fleming, is retiring! Maria has cleaned and cooked and served food to the children for over 25 years and deserves to go home and sit on the stoep! Many parents have asked Maria for her recipes for their children whom they say, ‘never eat at home.’ We will miss Maria and wish her all the best in her retirement.
Wendy our Sunbeams teacher will be retiring at the end of the term. Wendy has been
an institution in the Sunbeams Group and has been teacher, mom and granny to many.
We will miss Wendy but wish her well on the next step of life’s journey.
Our very special Red Group Teacher Yiota, will be leaving us to take up a position in
Grade 000 at Kingsmead College. We will miss her and wish her much happiness and
success as she takes on this new challenge.
Class Teachers in 2020
As Yiota is leaving us, Nancy Turner (Yellow Group teacher) will move to Red Group
and Nikki Gordon (Orange Group teacher) will move to Yellow Group. Ashlea Todd
joins us in Orange Group and Danielle Tyrell joins us in the Sunbeams Group to take
over from Wendy. Carey Cowin remains as Blue Groups’ outstanding 000 teacher! An
exciting year of innovation and change is ahead, and we have an awesome team on
board in 2020!
Classroom Assistants 2020
The classroom assistants in 2020 will be as follows:
Olga Sotwana will assist Danielle in the Sunbeams Group along with Gertrude
Makwarela until the children are settled. Ayanda Zungu will assist Ashlea in Orange
Group and Catherine Mothapo will assist Carey in Blue Group. Flavia Tobakgale will
move to the top school to assist in Grade R as well as Yellow and Red Groups.
Gertrude Makwarele will help throughout the school once the Sunbeams are settled.
Sinah Molotsi will also be available to help in the classrooms where necessary and Viv
Kambule our floating qualified teacher, assists in each classroom during the week.
Class Mums and Fleming Fest Committee
Our class mums, and Fleming Festival committee are a fabulous group of people who have been tireless in their commitment to Fleming this year. We thank them and appreciate all that they have done. We now have the final recon for the Fleming Fest, and we made a profit of R69,011.29 which is over R13 000 more than what we made in 2018. What a fabulous achievement! A HUGE thank you to Elke, Joss, Emma and their team as well as all you mum’s and dads for the sterling effort! Watch this space to see all your hard- earned money put to good use!
Our Grade R pupils will be leaving us to attend a variety of government and independent schools, but I know that they are well prepared and ready to go off into the big wide world and embrace new challenges! We wish them a happy and successful school career. We are really going to miss them!
I look forward to monitoring the continued progress of the remainder of the school in 2020. The majority of our ELC pupils will come up to ‘Big Fleming’ and will join us in the Sunbeams and Blue Groups. The Sunbeams Group will move to Orange Group, Orange Group will move to Red Group, Blue Group will move to Yellow Group and those children from Yellow and Red Groups that are remaining, will move to Grade R.
Our Christmas songs evening was sadly rained out, but the children thoroughly enjoyed performing for their audience the next morning. I have changed the event to a Tuesday instead of a Wednesday next year to try and break the curse!!!!!
A big THANK YOU to all who donated Santa Shoe Boxes. The organisers were overwhelmed and incredibly grateful. Your generosity was very much appreciated.
Our Support Staff
Thanks to all who contributed towards the support Staff Christmas Fund. They really appreciate your thoughtfulness.
