Outside & indoor areas
Early Learning Centre outdoor and indoor areas
Our outdoor play areas provide sensory play opportunities daily, through the engaging use of sensory trays and troughs. When a child is engaged in child-led free play they are developing many social and emotional skills, like moving from parallel play to associative and cooperative play. They learn how to interact and read their friends emotions, they learn negotiation and problem solving skills. They are learning about how their bodies move and how to get their bodies to move in a certain way. They are also learning about body spatial awareness and general spatial awareness. All of these skills are the foundation for cognitive learning. We also promote free imaginary play in our Wendy house and outdoor kitchen area.
Indoor play areas allow children to play on and with multisensory equipment. Purposefully planned play allows for self-discovery, exploration, curiosity, and personal mastery. Each classroom is equipped with a “reading” book area, a perceptual skills area; for the development of early math skills, a creative area, a block building area, a quiet area as well as an outdoor patio area. We offer exciting extra activities during the day which include Clamber Club, Music rings, Phys Ed To Get Ahead Programme, baking, Tooti Frooti and many more.
Our outdoor equipment is age appropriate and there for the children to develop their large muscle movements (gross motor skills).
Pre-Primary outdoor and indoor areas
The Pre-Primary School offers a variety of exciting jungle gyms, tunnels, climbing frames, monkey bars, sandpits, and swings to promote sensory, gross motor, vestibular, spatial, and bilateral integration skills. Our playgrounds are divided into two separate sections: one to accommodate the 3- to 4-year-olds and one to accommodate the 5- to 6-year-olds. The verandas outside the classrooms are set up for multi-media art activities, dress up and construction activities, and the outdoor blackboards encourage the development of pre-writing, reading and fine motor skills. Our Lapa areas with roll-up blinds have been set up as year-round fantasy play areas and include a kitchen, prams, dolls, and other indoor/role-play equipment. Our fantasy walkway fosters creativity, imagination, and sensory exploration, and includes a variety of outdoor musical instruments, such as drums and wind chimes. This “fairy garden” features woodland birds and creatures made from recycled materials.
Our fenced-off, solar heated swimming pool allows us to offer weekly class swimming sessions during school (included in the school fees), together with the convenience of private sessions after school and on weekends. These are run by our 2 qualified swimming teachers. Indoor play areas include book nooks, puzzle corners, quiet corners, nature tables and construction areas. Weekly visits to the magical school Library for story time and the choosing of a book to take home, fosters a love for books and reading and the acquisition of pre-literacy and language skills. We offer extra activities during the day including gross motor classes, Music, Baking, iPads, and Coding. Private Occupational Therapy, NDT Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Play Therapy are accommodated in our Therapy Room. These take place during the school day, if required.
